About Artist
Born in Shefa-Amr in 1955, Asad Azi is a Palestinian artist of Syrian origin. He currently lives and works in Jaffa.
Azi earned his BFA from the University of Haifa in 1980 and his MFA from the Tel Aviv University in 1981. To this day, he teaches art as a senior lecturer at the Beit Berl Academic College, where he has worked since 2008, and at the University of Haifa, where he has worked since 2014. He has published a selection of notable scholarly articles and studies in local Palestinian and Israeli newspapers and has received multiple awards.
Azi’s work has been included in many exhibitions locally and internationally, including at the Israel Museum (Jerusalem, 1985); the Venice Biennale (Italy, 1986); and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (1988), as well as other countries such as Germany and the United States. His solo exhibitions include Wandering Rider, Umm al-Fahm Gallery (2015); Orientalism, Hamidrasha Gallery, Beit Berl Academic College (2013); Erotic Paintings, N&N Aman Gallery (Tel Aviv, 2010); and Refugees, Tamra Municipal Gallery (2006), among others.
He has also participated in group exhibitions such as Diary of a Donkey, Museum of Islamic Art (Jerusalem, 2015); Spiritual Circle, Beit Maryam Gallery (Ramallah, 2015); Hiwar, The Arab Museum of Contemporary Art and Heritage (Sakhnin, 2014); Spring, Mana Contemporary’s Middle East Center for the Arts (Jersey City, NJ, US, 2012); The Orange Segments, Umm al-Fahm Gallery (2005); and Art against the Occupation, International Conference Center, the Moroccan Pavilion (Seville, Spain, 2004), to name a few.
The following institutions have publicly collected his work: The Haifa Museum of Art; the Israel Museum; Essl Museum (Vienna, Austria); and many more. Azi’s work is also in private collections such as Mazen Kupti’s collection (Jerusalem); Rebecca Horn’s, (Germany); the Buchman Collection (Frankfurt, Germany); and the Hachmi Collection (London, UK).

The following conditions of sale describe the relationship between the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA and the buyers, prospective buyers, and bidders for the Keyword: Palestine II Art Exhibition and Auction which will begin on March 2nd, 2020, and end on December 31st, 2020. By using this website to buy, bid, or inquire about any artwork, you agree to be bound by these conditions.
When you place a bid on any artwork, you are accepting personal liability for the purchase price, any applicable taxes, any and all shipping and packing costs, and all other applicable charges. Any artwork bought by residents of the District of Columbia will be subjected to a 6% sales tax on the market value of the artwork. All U.S. resident buyers can claim tax deductions on amounts that exceed the market value of the artwork. Market value of artwork is their starting value.
Bid winners can pick up the artwork they bought from the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA or have the Institute arrange for shipment, however, reiterating, that the buyer is responsible for all packing and shipment costs.
There will be ten (10) bidding cycles. Each cycle will close on the last day of the month at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (USA) at which time the highest bidder for the art will be notified of their winning bid.
