About Artist
Khaled Hourani is a prominent Palestinian artist, curator, and writer born in 1965. He was the artistic director of the International Academy of Art Palestine from 2007 to 2010 and its general director from 2010 to 2013. He also worked as general director of the Fine Arts Department in the Palestinian Ministry of Culture (2004–6). A painter and conceptual artist, in 2013 he was awarded Creative Time’s Leonore Annenberg Prize for Art and Social Change (New York, US). In 2014, he organized his first retrospective at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow and Gallery One in Ramallah. Most recently, another retrospective showcased his work at Darat al Funun (Amman, Jordan, 2017). Hourani was the initiator of the 2011 Picasso in Palestine project and The Stone Distance to Jerusalem project.
He has participated in several exhibitions, including the Sharjah Biennial (UAE, 2011); an exhibition at the Times Museum (Guangzhou, China, 2012); the 2nd Central Academy of Fine Arts Biennale Museum (Beijing, China, 2013); Documenta (13) in Kassel, Germany and KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin; Catastrophe and the Power of Art at Mori Art Museum (Tokyo, Japan, 2017); and more recently, in Picasso and Spanish Exile at the Museum of Modern Art (Toulouse, France, 2019). Hourani is also known as an art critic and curator, having overseen many exhibitions in Palestine (including at the Walled Off Hotel in 2018) and internationally. He lives and works in Ramallah.
Conditions
The following conditions of sale describe the relationship between the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA and the buyers, prospective buyers, and bidders for the Keyword: Palestine II Art Exhibition and Auction which will begin on March 2nd, 2020, and end on December 31st, 2020. By using this website to buy, bid, or inquire about any artwork, you agree to be bound by these conditions.
When you place a bid on any artwork, you are accepting personal liability for the purchase price, any applicable taxes, any and all shipping and packing costs, and all other applicable charges. Any artwork bought by residents of the District of Columbia will be subjected to a 6% sales tax on the market value of the artwork. All U.S. resident buyers can claim tax deductions on amounts that exceed the market value of the artwork. Market value of artwork is their starting value.
Bid winners can pick up the artwork they bought from the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA or have the Institute arrange for shipment, however, reiterating, that the buyer is responsible for all packing and shipment costs.
There will be ten (10) bidding cycles. Each cycle will close on the last day of the month at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (USA) at which time the highest bidder for the art will be notified of their winning bid.
